Non contact composite material testing optimized by laser non-destructive testing and DIC system display
CAMX 2024: Dantec Dynamics showcases its three laser shear speckle NDT and DIC devices, aimed at providing reliable measurement results.
Dantec Dynamics (Holtsville, New York, USA) is showcasing its laser shear non-destructive testing (NDT) and digital image correlation (DIC) equipment. The exhibited products include the company's FlawHunter NDT system, FlawExplorer, and MulticamDIC.
Laser shear microscopy NDT is an optical NDT measurement technique used to examine composite materials, including laminates, honeycomb, sandwich, adhesive and coating components, rubber, sprayed foam and sealant. Laser shear microscopy provides high inspection rate (i.e. m2/sec), short sample preparation time, and simple automation.
DIC is also an optical non-contact measurement technique, but it is used to determine the shape (contour), displacement, and strain of experimental solid mechanics applications in material testing. This technology can also be used to determine the motion of discrete points, such as rotation, velocity, and acceleration.
The FlawHunter NDT system on display is an integrated NDT detection device equipped with high-resolution laser shear scanning sensors and a vacuum (partial) excitation system. It is said to be ergonomic and easy to use, with a workflow oriented GUI display and left/right button controls. According to the company, FlawHunter can provide reliable and firm measurement results for on-site NDT (service) and quality control (post production) operations, regardless of the application.
FlawExplorer is a laser shear microscopy non-destructive testing sensor designed for post production quality control applications or on-site (in use) component inspection. According to the application, sensors can be configured with thermal or vacuum (partial) excitation systems, and can also achieve automation. It adopts phase shift technology, aiming to provide accurate and reliable measurement results through clear and sharp imaging with sub micron displacement resolution.
MulticamDIC is a combined stereo array DIC measurement system consisting of four or more (up to 16) USB3 or GigE cameras. This application specific measurement system enables testing engineers to conduct large-scale and complex (contour) surface testing on sub components and structures.
FlawExplorer laser shear speckle non-destructive testing (NDT) and DIC system are used together to demonstrate internal pressure testing of composite wrapped pressure vessels (COPVs).
